PEP Students on a Short Scientific Cruise
During a few days trip on board of the AWI research vessel „Heincke“, we learned how to operate scientific instruments in oceanography including CTD (determining conductivity, temperature and density of ocean water), ADCP (measure current velocities within depth) and taking probes from the sea floor. We slept on the ship while anchoring in the harbor of Helgoland. On one evening, we walked across the island observing a spectacular grouping of birds and got to know some history of the island. Although nothing special can be seen in the Nordic Sea since the water is very shallow it was a great opportunity to experience how it is like to be part of a scientific cruise.
