Research

The lectures of our master programme Environmental Physics are taught by expert scientists and staff of the Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP) in cooperation with the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven. Both, the IUP and the AWI are very research oriented.

Our aim is to encourage the students of our PEP programme to conduct research in the fields of environmental physics as early as possible. All members of our teaching staff are active in research and students work on their Master’s Thesis in one of the research groups.

INSTITUTE OF ENVIRONMENTAL PHYSICS (IUP)

The focus of the IUP’s work in environmental physics is on the investigation of the atmosphere, the cryosphere and the oceans of the earth. Part of the IUP is the IFE (Institut für Fernerkundung / Institute of Remote Sensing) which was established to handle longer-term satellite projects. Learn more about the different research groups of this institute by checking the information under IUP/Fields of Activity.

ALFRED WEGENER INSTITUTE, HELMHOLTZ CENTRE FOR POLAR AND MARINE RESEARCH (AWI)

Learn more about the research groups of our lecturers from the AWI by checking the information under AWI/Fields of Activity.

RESEARCH GOALS

Overarching international bodies and agencies are strongly involved in environmental research and the publication and application of its results. Find out more about the overarching research goals of the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere by checking the information under research goals.
